Whatever Happened, Happened.

"If little Ben dies here in the past, he can't become big Ben in the future who brought us here, so therefore, we don't exist." You gotta love Hurley. He says what the whole LOST viewer audience is thinking. I loved the conversation between him and Miles. The two of them together equals comedy genious. It was like listening to two regular viewers of the show, discussing the show and Miles thought he had it all figured out, but he didn't. lol! I think Miles is right though, as the title of the episode implies. Whatever Happened, Happened.

This was a Kate-centric episode. We finally found out what Sawyer said to Kate before he jumped off the chopper in the season finale last year. As many of us have suspected, he wanted her to take care of his daughter, Clementine. It was great to see Kate being "good Kate" again, like her character was in the first couple of seasons. I was beginning to think she was a little too self-centered but this episode showed that was not the case at all. She really struggled with what to do about Aaron.

It's happened to the best of us Kate. This scene reminded me of when I lost my own son at a fall festival when he was 5 years old. He was lost for about 20 minutes, and it was the worst, most panicked 20 minutes of my life. There was an overwhelming feeling of relief when I found him. However, he wasn't holding the hand of someone I thought might be his possibly dead/possibly alive real mom who is supposed to be on an island far, far away.....he was just standing next to a police officer who had found him. Whew.....lucky for me. :D

So Kate ended up giving Aaron to his grandmother, which is what I suspected she did. It would be the only person I could see her trusting with Aaron. I do like that Kate told her that she was going back to the island to find Claire. I think Kate finally realizes that Aaron needs to be with his real mom and she is ready for that to happen.

That being said, it was still hard to watch her give him up. I will be the first to admit that, yes, I was crying right along with Kate when she walked out that door. I think any mother could relate to this scene, knowing that she had loved him and cared for him for 3 years and then she just had to walk away from him. Poor Kate. :( I'm glad to know that Kate didn't just go back to the island for Sawyer though. She has an ultimate goal of finding Claire, which I think is awesome.

Sawyer and Kate deliver little Ben to Richard and The Others. Richard tells Sawyer, "If you do this, he will never be the same. He won't remember any of this, and he will be changed forever. He will always be one of us." Enter Evil Ben. Will this be the case, or will we find out that Ben also has a soft side we don't know about? Next week, we will find out all about our favorite villian and how he evolved into the Ben we all know and love to hate. Ben: "I broke the rules John. I came back to the island to be judged." Who will judge Ben? Temple people, Others, Smokey, Richard, Vincent the dog??? We shall see in next week's episode, Dead is Dead.

Speaking of dead......here is a spoiler about the season finale. Who do you think it could be?

Melanie in Auckland, New Zealand writes: Lost scoop, please, hopefully about which character is dying.

We hit a Lost writers event last week at the Writers Guild Foundation in Beverly Hills, and when asked about character deaths, awesome Lost exec producer Eddy Kitsis told the audience, "We arc our characters, so we know who will die and when they die. I will say when it comes to those episodes, sometimes it's very hard to let go, and you'll start saying [in the writers' room], 'I know we planned all season for Charlie to die, but…what if he didn't? Maybe Charlie lives.' And that's how we know how it's good—because if we're having this emotional reaction over losing these characters, hopefully you will, too." For the record, we will have a Charlie's-death-level emotional reaction to the character death at the end of this season—there will be wailing, rending of garments and general grief. The writers probably had plenty of doubts about whether or not it was really a good idea to kill this particular character.
